It’s starting to get fun now.
A couple games with massive playoff implications came down to the final minutes last Friday night, the first night of 4A North league play.
Douglas erased a 28-17 deficit at home against Bishop Manogue to come back and steal a 32-28 win. Spanish Springs escaped at McQueen thanks to a game-saving/game-winning 100-yard pick six at the end of regulation by Austin Cadenhead.
The biggest surprise, however, was Reno needing to break a sweat at home against Hug before salvaging a 27-18 win.
Five games kick off Friday for week 7, but there will be one everyone will be interested in: Reno at Reed.
The Huskies are the last undefeated 4A North team standing, and they’ll be on the road against the bully of Northern Nevada. The winner of that one will have a clear path to the High Desert League title and will be a sizeable favorite in every game until mid-November.

1. Reed Raiders (5-1)
The 58-0 win over North Valleys didn’t reveal anything. Although, the shutout had to feel good for a defense that has shown some weaknesses.
It all comes down to Friday night at home against Reno. It’s hard to see that one not determining the High Desert League title.

2. Reno Huskies (6-0)
The Huskies were maybe looking ahead to the Reed matchup, needing to grind out a home win over Hug.
Reno has arguably the best defense in Northern Nevada. It will face its toughest test against the Raiders.

3. Damonte Ranch Mustangs (5-1)
The Mustangs have made like Reed and rattled off five straight since dropping the opener to tough out-of-state competition.
The explosive offense sputtered in a few games early but has now scored 110 points the last two weeks.
Damonte hosts Carson next week, in case you were wondering.

4. Carson Senators (4-2)
Dropping a spot this week is less due to last week’s win, and more about what Damonte is starting to do offensively.
Carson’s offense is pretty good, too. Abel Carter had 163 yards and two touchdowns against Galena. On 11 carries.

5. Spanish Springs Cougars (3-2)
Spanish Springs went out of its way to make the win over McQueen interesting. But to quote every football coach ever, a win is a win.
Korbin Marcum is in the conversation for best quarterback in the 4A North.
The Cougars are developing a case of the fumbles. They’d be advised to chase them.
