Raiders’ upset bid ends in overtime, 2-1
It would have been the upset of the year, regardless of sport.
The fourth-seeded Raiders went to undefeated Carson on Tuesday night for a 4A North quarterfinal and on paper, didn’t have much of a chance.
Carson entered ranked third in the state by maxpreps.com. And Reed (7-9-1) had already lost the Senators (16-0-1) at home this year, 9-1.
So most in attendance, if not all, were likely surprised to see both teams needed extra time to decide the outcome. The Senators went on to escape 2-1 in overtime.
Carson took a 1-0 lead early only for the Raiders to tie it up 10 minutes later. The 1-1 deadlock remained through the rest of the first half, and the entire second half.
Then in extra time, Molly Otto scored the game winner for the Senators, who advanced to the 4A North semifinals on Thursday at North Valleys against McQueen.
