Week 12 4A North Power Rankings

November 9, 2016 By Nathan Shoup Leave a Comment

The first round of the 4A North regional tournament wielded no surprises.

All four home teams advanced with varying degrees of ease, or difficulty, so now we have a pair of 1-2 matchups in the semifinals on Friday night.

Douglas will travel to Reed to play a team that just hung 69 points on Bishop Manogue. In the other semifinal, the juicier of the two matchups if you will, Reno goes to Damonte Ranch.

The Mustangs’ offense has moved the ball with ease most of the year, but now squares up against a defense that doesn’t go backwards much.

To view how the rankings have progressed this season, click here.

1. Reed Raiders (10-1)

Tre Bussey returned in Friday’s lopsided quarterfinal win over Bishop Manogue after sitting out the regular season finale against Spanish Springs. That was unfortunate for the Miners.

Bussey carried the ball just nine times and still racked up 159 yards and four touchdowns.

“Uh oh,” said the rest of the 4A North, probably.

2. Damonte Ranch Mustangs (10-1)

Cade McNamara was limited to 143 passing yards in the quarterfinal win over McQueen, but still tossed three touchdowns.

The ground game was as dominant as ever, going for 308 yards, averaging 9.8 yards a carry.

The Mustangs offense will have their hands full against a stout Reno defense this week.

3. Reno Huskies (10-1)

The Huskies held Abel Carter and the Carson offense to 10 points in the quarterfinal win over the Senators.

This week, they get to line up against the most explosive offense in the 4A North other than Reed.

Last week: 3

4. Douglas Tigers (6-4)

Douglas hosted a playoff game last Friday for the first time in seven years.

The Tigers rolled to a 24-0 first half lead over Spanish Springs then had to grind out the final two quarters, eventually hanging on, 24-6.

It goes without saying, but things get much more difficult this week at Reed.

5. Carson Senators (5-5)

The loss of quarterback Jace Keema proved insurmountable for the Senators.
