Cougars extend winning streak
Spanish Springs pushed its longest winning streak in three season to six games on Tuesday night with 49-39 non-league win at Lassen (Susanville, Calif.).
The Cougars improved to 7-3 overall, remaining 4-0 in 4A North play. The Grizzlies dipped to 6-4.
Nine different Spanish Springs players got on the board in the win, led by Serena Sanchez’s 13-point night. Nobody else had more than five.
The Cougs built a big lead in the first quarter and needed it. They were outscored 33-31 over the final three quarters after taking an 18-6 lead in the first eight minutes.
Spanish Springs continues non-league play next Tuesday in the first game of a tournament in Las Vegas.

Sparks snaps skid with comeback victory
The Railroaders’ seven-game losing streak to open the season came to a halt on Tuesday night with 65-60 home non-league win over Lassen (Susanville, Calif.)
Sparks (1-7, 0-3) trailed 44-37 going to the fourth quarter, where it outscored the Grizzlies (4-5), 28-16. The hosts also trailed 17-8 after the first quarter.
Matt Longland and Carlos Rodriguez both scored 15 points in the win. James Bates was the only other Railroader in double figures. He finished with 14.
Sparks now prepares for its second non-league tournament of the season, starting Monday.
Reed suffers seventh-straight loss
The Raiders came up short for the seventh straight game on Tuesday night, falling in a non-league contest at Lowry, 67-54.
Reed dropped to 1-7 and remained 1-3 in the 4A North. The Buckaroos, who play in the 3A North, picked up their first win of the season, moving to 1-7.
After a two-week break, Reed returns to 4A North play on Jan. 3 at Wooster (0-8, 0-4).
