Sparks drop second game in Nugget Rail City Classic
Sparks was unable to repeat its performance from a week ago.
The Railroaders picked up their first win of the season last Tuesday at home over Lassen, but fell at home to the same Lassen team on Tuesday morning in the Nugget Rail City Classic, 38-37.
With the defeat, Sparks dropped to 1-9, remaining 0-3 in 3A North. The Grizzlies improved to 5-7.
The Railroaders continue tournament play Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. when they host Yerington (7-3).
Raiders fall in Nugget Rail City Classic
Reed dipped to 2-8 overall with a 62-45 loss to Antioch (Antioch, Calif.) on Tuesday night in Sparks’ annual tournament.
The Raiders found themselves in just an 18-17 hole after one quarter, but were outscored 18-9 going into the half.
Reed plays North Valleys on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
Cougs topped in San Diego opener
Spanish Springs started its annual trip to San Diego for the Under Armor Classic on Tuesday night with a 65-55 loss to Saint Patrick-Saint Vincent of Vellejo, Calif.
The Cougs fell to 7-3 with the non-league loss.

Reed wins a pair of tournament games
The Raiders improved to 7-2 with a pair of non-league tournament victories on Tuesday afternoon.
Reed handled Pyramid Lake, 66-6, and got past Nevada Union, 51-44, to advance to Wednesday’s tournament title game against Lowry at McQueen. Tip is at 4:30 p.m.
In the win over Pyramid Lake, freshman Autumn Wadsworth scored a game-high 17 points. Serene Townsell-Williams chipped in 11.
Taylor Johnson took over the lead scoring duties in the much narrower win over Nevada Union, matching Wadsworth’s 17-point performance. Nobody else reached double figures.
Cougars balloon winning streak to seven
Spanish Springs was victorious for the seventh consecutive contest on Tuesday night, beating Silverado (Las Vegas), 44-20, in the first game of the Gator Winter Classic in Las Vegas.
The Cougs (8-3) led 36-10 at the half. The Skyhawks dropped to 3-4.
Tournament play continues Wednesday.
