Become a certified lifeguard through the Sparks Parks and Recreation Department’s American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program. A winter session will be held Tuesday – Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alf Sorensen Community Center, 1400 Baring Blvd.
Candidates must be 15 yrs. or older and pass a swim performance test prior to acceptance into the class, which includes the following prerequisites:
• Brick recovery from deep water
• 100 yd. Freestyle
• 100 yd. Breaststroke
• 100 yd. – Freestyle or Breaststroke
• Tread water with legs only for 2 minutes
Students who complete the course will receive Lifeguard First Aid certificates valid for three years, and a CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate valid for two years.
The cost for the Lifeguard Training program is $180 ($150 for Sparks residents). The registration fee includes instruction, course materials, and an administration fee. For more information, call (775) 353-2385.
