Spanish Springs fights off upset scare
The first-place Cougs found themselves in a surprisingly close game at Damonte Ranch on Tuesday night.
A strong second half, however, helped Spanish Springs (10-4, 5-0) overcome a 31-30 halftime deficit to escape with a 73-62 win over the Mustangs (2-11, 1-4).
Four of the six Spanish Springs players who scored finished in double figures, led by Marcus Laodholt’s 24 points. Jalen Townsell had 16, Josh Prizina finished with 15 (along with eight rebounds) and Justus Eaglesmith chipped in 10.
The Cougs hit 23-of-26 free throws in the win.
Spanish Springs now goes to Bishop Manogue (10-5, 5-0) on Friday night. The Miners beat the Cougs, 83-67, in the Wild West Shootout a month ago.
Ramos goes for 28 in win
Jeremy Ramos went off for 28 points on Tuesday night as Reed went to Wooster and left with a 72-55 road win.
The Raiders improved to 3-10, 2-3 in the 4A North. The Colts lowered to 1-14, 1-4.
Reed hosts Galena (13-3, 4-1) on Friday night.

Cougars get back in win column
In the first game since getting a nine-game winning streak snapped, Spanish Springs went to Damonte Ranch on Tuesday night and picked up a 56-39 win.
The Cougars (11-4, 5-0) remained unbeaten in 4A North play with the win. Conversely, the Mustangs (1-10, 0-5) remained winless in 4A North play.
Anhelica Shanrock led all scorers with 19 points in the win. Ireland Bennett finished with 10.
Spanish Springs’ undefeated start to regional play faces its toughest test on Friday, at two-time defending regional champion, Bishop Manogue (10-2, 5-0).
Raiders roll
The clocked started rolling early at Wooster on Tuesday night.
Reed enacted the running clock mercy rule midway through the second quarter and cruised to 61-5 regional victory. The Raiders led 45-4 at the half.
With the 4A North victory, the Raiders improved to 9-2, 4-1. The Colts dropped to 2-8, 1-4.
Reed returns home on Friday night to play Galena (5-7, 1-4). Tip is at 5:15 p.m.
