An estimated 10,000 people marched in downtown Reno on Saturday as part of the Reno Women’s March on Washington. The event was peaceful, and police made no arrests. “I support Reno citizens’ right to peacefully demonstrate at this weekend’s Reno Women’s March on Washington. It’s great to see people in our community rally for solidarity,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. Event organizers applied for and were granted a special activity permit to close Virginia Street from Stewart Street to Second Street during the event. For the safety of everyone, the Reno Police Department staffed additional officers during the event to provide assistance at street crossings, prevent traffic from entering the closed roadway during the march and assist motorists on routes around the designated closure.
