Tribune file photo by John Byrne – Spanish Springs senior Marcus Loadholt was officially announced the High Desert League Player of the Year on Tuesday night when the all-league teams were announced. Loadholt was also the HDL POY as a junior.

The 4A North all-league teams were officially released on Tuesday night and as expected, the four local teams (Spanish Springs boys and girls, Reed boys and girls) were well represented.

All four teams made the postseason and three of the four advanced to the regional semifinals.

The Spanish Springs boys won the second league title in program history (first was in 2015) and had the most all-league selections (six) of anyone in the High Desert League.

Marcus Loadholt was named the HDL Player of the Year for the second-straight season. The senior averaged 20.3 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Cougs, who finished the year with a 23-5 record, including a 16-0 mark in regional play.

Kyle Penney was voted the HDL Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches.

Senior big man Josh Prizina and junior shooting forward Jalen Townsell were first-team all-league selections. Senior post Korbin Marcum landed on the second team. And senior point guard Justus Eaglesmith as well as senior guard Damani Craig received honorable mention.

For Reed, four players received post-season accolades. Senior sharpshooter Lincoln Turner was the lone first-team selection for the Raiders, who finished third in the HDL with an 8-17 overall record.

Turner averaged 17.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game this winter.

Sophomore forward Matt Williams and senior shooting guard Jeremy Ramos were second-team picks. Senior post Matt Garcia received honorable mention.

On the girls side, Reed tied with Reno for the most all-league selections in the HDL. Both teams finished with six.

The Raiders (18-7) finished second in the HDL (to Reno) and advanced to the regional semifinals, where the fell to eventual champion, Bishop Manogue.

Junior guard Taylor Johnson (14.2 ppg) and sophomore point guard Vanessa Hernandez (9.9 ppg) were both voted to the first team.

Sophomore shooting guard Janae Bluehorse, junior guard Serene Townsell-Williams and freshman point guard Autumn Wadsworth were all second-team selections. Sophomore center Tori Baer received honorable mention.

Five different Spanish Springs girls were honored.

The Cougs finished third in the HDL at 18-10, and were the only team in the 4A North (boys or girls) to win a first-round playoff game on the road (at Douglas).

Senior shooting guard Anhelica Shanrock (10.6 ppg) and junior power forward Kierra Johnson (5.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg) were both first-team all-league selections.

Senior point guard Alysa Dominguez was voted to the second team. Senior guard Mackenzie O’Connell, who played for the first time since her freshman year, and sophomore guard Naelia Pinedo received honorable mention.
