Aces drop three of first four in Fresno
The ninth season in Reno Aces history started Thursday night as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate opened at Fresno.
Reno pounded out 18 eights and moved to 1-0 with a resounding 13-6 victory. Nevada alum Braden Shipley allowed five runs in the first, but managed to last five innings and picked up the win thanks to the offensive outburst.
The following three nights were less fruitful. The Aces scored a total of seven runs over 27 innings, dropping all three contests.
Reno comes home to Greater Nevada Field for the first time this season on Tuesday night, kicking off a seven-game homestand. Albuquerque is in Reno for the initial four games followed by three-game set with El Paso Saturday-Monday.

Ketel Marte. The 23-year-old shortstop is new the Diamondbacks organization following a trade with Seattle that sent shortstop Jean Segura to the Mariners. He’s making himself at home in Reno. In the first three games of the season, Marte is 8-for-18, good for a team-leading .444 batting average.
Who’s not?
Keyvious Sampson. Sampson, 26, is also new to the Diamondbacks organization after the Reds owned his rights the previous two seasons. Sampson made his Aces debut on Sunday afternoon at Fresno and let’s just put it this way: His ERA is sitting at 108.00. Sampson, who has almost 92 innings of major league experience, started the game allowed four runs on four hits while recording just one out.
