The maelstrom of mendacity reached mammoth proportions in Washington, DC last week.
Prime example was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s calling President Trump “a 98-pound weakling”. This was almost as ludicrous as Schumer’s suggestion that he confide with President Trump on the picking of a Supreme Court nominee to replace Neil Gorsuch. Apparently Schumer is unaware of laws stating that the President alone is entitled to pick Supreme Court nominees.
Also, Schumer, who had to step in to the very large shoes of former Senate Democrat leader Harry Reid, has had no trouble filling out that footwear. As a matter of fact, some of Schumer’s recent statements eclipsed many of Reid’s most famous foibles.
Because of his (Schumer’s) opposition to Gorsuch, the Republican leadership was forced to go to the Nuclear Option when it came to confirmation of Gorsuch.
While Democrats roundly criticize the Nuclear Option, they should be aware of the fact that it was their own beloved Harry Reid who first utilized it when the Democrats had the majority. Many political pundits have noted that the current situation is one of “As you sow, so shall you reap.” Or “Democrat chickens are coming home to roost.”
Equally fascinating is the fact that Susan Rice, the premier promulgator of prevarication, (second only to her former boss, President Obama) once again has entered the national spotlight. Her current problems result from the fact that prior to and after the 2016 Presidential Election, Rice was constantly perusing intelligence reports in order to gather Trump Campaign officials’ names and seeking to “unmask” them. Since she was the NSA Advisor following her debacle about the reason for the Benghazi attack, she had the President’s ear on major issues. Her appointment to the NSA position came about when she removed herself from consideration as the heir apparent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. As incompetent as Clinton was, she was certainly not stupid enough to go on the five Sunday TV talk shows and push the false narrative, actually a canard that had been created by White House insider Ben Rhodes, who holds a Master’s degree in Science Fiction Writing. Rice was quick to jump on the opportunity to appear on TV and further the Great Benghazi Lie. Her latest problem occurred when she initially stated on TV she had no knowledge of the charges that had been brought against her. Shortly thereafter, she appeared on TV again and said that she actually had committed the action that she was accused of. She tried to cover her misdeeds by saying that her interest was motivated by National Security concerns.
Other major developments last week included the temporary resignation of Congressman Nunes, Co-Chairman of the Russian-Trump investigation over the Presidential Campaign.
Syrian gas attacks on civilians, the meeting between Trump and the President of China and the North Korean imbroglio presented a full plate of international proportions.
At present, Congress is on their annual Easter break so it is doubtful that any substantive action will be taken on any of these problems.
