Two locals finish 33rd, 41st
Palo Verde managed the wind and cold in the second round of the state tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Toiyabe Golf Club to seal a second-straight state championship.
Bishop Manogue followed up Monday’s 391 with a 405 on Tuesday and finished eight strokes back of Palo Verde. Galena entered the day tied with Palo Verde for first, but backed up a first-round 375 with a 427 on Tuesday and finished two strokes back of Coronado for fourth.
Spanish Springs’ Nick Frankoski and Reed’s Brandon Forman were the lone two local individuals to qualify for the tournament. Frankoski (82-86—168) ended in a tie for 33rd. Forman (82-91—173) finished in 41st place.
Bishop Manogue’s Ollie Osborne was one of five golfers (only one in top 14) to improve upon their first-round score and won the individual title. He turned in a 75 on Tuesday after a 76 on Monday for a two-day total of 151 – just one stroke ahead of Palo Verde’s Jack Trent.
