Drivers can expect delays on Vista and Sparks Boulevards this week as part of the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) Annual Pavement Preservation Project.
Vista Boulevard: Patching work on Vista Boulevard between Baring Boulevard to Passage Drive will begin at 6 a.m. and complete at 5 p.m. for the next several days. Construction will not occur in the southbound lanes prior to 9 a.m. or on the northbound lanes after 3 p.m. to minimize traffic delays during peak commute hours. Additionally, a minimum of one travel lane will remain open in each direction. Minor delays can also be expected as utility work continues in the next few weeks.
Sparks Boulevard: During the next several weeks, road work will continue on Sparks Boulevard between Interstate 80 and Pyramid Highway. This work is in preparation for a slurry seal project between Baring Boulevard and Pyramid Highway beginning on Sept. 5. Daytime construction will begin at 7 a.m. and finish at 6 p.m. with a minimum of one travel lane open in each direction. To minimize traffic delays during peak commute hours, construction will not occur in the southbound lanes prior to 9 a.m. or on the northbound lanes after 3 p.m.
RTC’s 2017 Annual Pavement Preservation Program for this construction season includes corrective maintenance (asphalt concrete patching) of regional roads that require short-term maintenance measures to improve ride quality and durability until complete reconstruction can occur (approximately 3-5 years). This work is necessary because of the severe winter that has resulted in accelerated deterioration of those regional roads near the end of their life cycle. The roads to be included in the project are located throughout the City of Reno, City of Sparks and Washoe County. Construction begin in August and will continue through October 2017.
