All five ranked programs start 1-0
The first week of games provided the 4A North the opportunity to prove its perceived growth. The region’s top programs responded.
Of the 10 games involving 4A North squads on Friday and Saturday, eight were against out-of-state opponents. The 4A North went 5-3 in those games, including particularly impressive wins by Reed, McQueen and Carson. Damonte Ranch and Reno rolled their California foes by a combined score of 90-23.

1. Damonte Ranch Mustangs (1-0)
The Cade McNamara to Dru Jacobs connection that was mentioned last week lived up to the billing in a 46-16 drubbing of Northgate (Walnut Creek, Calif.). Both padded their stats early.
McNamara was 27-for-40 passing for 400 yards and five total touchdowns. Three of those went to Jacobs, who caught six passes for 150 yards.

2. Reed Raiders (1-0)
Reed forced nine total turnovers in a resume-building 38-22 home win over a really good program in Clayton Valley Charter.
The offense wasn’t as free-flowing as Raider fans are accustomed to. That wasn’t surprising considering the opponent and that it was Reed’s first game under Tony Amantia and the new coaching staff.
Last week: 2
3. Reno Huskies (1-0)
Stagg (Stockton, Calif.) was overmatched by Reno in the opener for the second straight season.
The Huskies rolled 44-7 on the road Friday night as the notoriously stout defense took a shutout into the fourth quarter.
Last week: 3
4. Bishop Manogue Miners (1-0)
It took exactly one game for Ernie Howren’s presence to be felt at Bishop Manogue.
The Miners steamrolled North Valleys on the road, 60-13. It was the most points Bishop Manogue scored in a single game since 2008, when it finished with an 11-2 record.
Last week: 4
5. Carson Senators (1-0)
A missed PAT was the difference in Carson’s 14-13 win over Lewiston (Lewiston, Idaho) on Saturday in the Rocky Mountain Rumble.
Abel Carter ran for over 250 yards, including a pair of long touchdowns.
