Spanish Springs knocked off the two seed and won a 22-20 thriller over Bishop Manogue last Thursday to advance to the regional semifinals this week.
The Cougs defense stepped up in a big way all night as the team recorded three sacks and recovered three fumbles to help secure the playoff win. Colby Melton was responsible for one of those fumble recoveries and also picked off the Miners quarterback for an interception.
The win sets up a rematch for Spanish Springs with Reno from three weeks ago that saw the Huskies cruise to a 35-7 win. The two teams will battle Friday night at 7 p.m. at Reno High for the right to move on to the regional championship game Nov. 24.
Reno (11-0, 5-0) shut out Carson 36-0 in the first round.
