Five Spanish Springs girls players scored in double figures and eight got into the scoring column in the Cougs 71-39 rout of Douglas last Tuesday.
Sophomore Mariah Barraza led the way with a team-high 17 points and six rebounds for Spanish Springs. Jada Townsell, Serena Sanchez and Autumn Wadsworth each had 11 points while Kierra Johnson finished with 10. Lauryn Dressler chipped in eight in the win.
The balanced Cougar squad was back at it Friday night and knocked off Galena 50-25. Nine girls scored for Spanish Springs and its defense held the Grizzlies to under 10 points in each quarter.
Townsell had a game-high 11 points for the Cougars while Wadsworth had 10 and Johnson eight.
The Cougars (7-3, 1-0) are set to host Damonte Ranch on Thursday and Bishop Manogue on Friday. Both game are slated for 1 5:15 p.m. tip.
After a week off, the Raiders were back on the hardwood last week and came away with a pair of wins.
Reed traveled to Carson last Tuesday and held the Senators to just two points in the first quarter on their way to a 65-40 win. The girls went on to knock off Douglas Friday night 58-46 after a big fourth quarter. The Raiders were up just three heading into the final quarter before outscoring Douglas 17-8 to close the game.
Reed (6-1, 1-0) will host Wooster Thursday night at 5:15 p.m. before playing in the Varsity Elite Tournament over the break.
The Sparks High girls basketball team welcomed conference opponent Lowry to its gym on Friday night and were dealt a 61-23 loss. The Railroaders outscored the Buckaroos 10-6 in the first quarter before Lowry took control.
The girls fell to Fernley 48-31 the next day but played well in the second half. After trailing 25-9 at the break, the Railroaders were only outscored by one the rest of the way.
Sparks (0-4, 0-3) will host Coral Academy of Science Friday and Dayton on Saturday.
The Warriors remain winless on the season after losing to Virginia City on Saturday 52-18. Emily Barrera scored a team-high eight points and Maddie Briggs added five in the loss.
Excel (0-4, 0-1) played Sage Ridge on Monday and Mineral County on Tuesday before press time. They are set to host Smith Valley on Saturday at 6 p.m.
