Instead of staying home and watching the Reno fireworks on TV, consider going out and dancing the night away or keeping it mellow in Sparks with your friends, family and loved ones. Here are some ways to stay local, make some new friends and/or celebrate the old, and start the New Year off right:
If you’re looking to keep it mellow…
— If you do decide to stay home on New Year’s, then at least take the family to Dive-In Family Movie Night on Dec. 30. From 6 to 10 p.m., swimmers and movie lovers are invited to splash around in the pool at the Alf Sorenson Community Center (1400 Baring Boulevard) from 6 to 7 p.m. and then settle down in an inner tube or chairs along the pool deck to watch Beauty and the Beast. $10 per person includes an inner tube. Since space is limited, be sure to make your reservation by Dec. 28 by calling (775) 353-2385. Port of Subs will be sponsoring this first-ever event.
— Enjoy fantastic food and drinks all night long at Red Hawk Golf and Resort (6600 North Wingfield Parkway) as you ring in the New Year with live music by Jamie Rollins. To secure your spot at David’s Grill, call 775-626-1000.
If you’re looking to be active…
— Drop the ball at Coconut Bowl! The bowling center at Wild Island Family Adventure Park is offering day and night bowling packages which can include glow bowling, pizza, and soda. Or ring in the New Year with a nighttime package and partake in a champagne/apple cider toast, party favors, and raffles to win a waterpark season pass. Exclusive 2-hour celebrations for six guests include bowling in the private bowling garage, appetizers, pizza buffet, dippin’ dots, bottle of champagne, party favors and more for $164.99.
— Jump the night away at the 2nd Annual Flight Night NYE Party at Fly High Trampoline Park (10 Greg Street, Unit 204). For its second year in a row, Fly High is bringing the NYE Bash back. From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Amplified Entertainment will be playing Top 40, EDM, Latin, Hip-Hop, and Country hits as you can bounce along to the beat! Available to all ages, spending New Year’s at Fly High guarantees a fun, clean, safe and exciting way to ring in 2018 with your favorite people(for only a $25 cover charge).
If you’re looking for a party…
— Check out Alice in Discoland at Great Basin Brewery (846 Victorian Avenue) with Mojo Green. Fall down the rabbit hole with your psychedelic style as Reno’s own Mojo Green throws down heavy horn funky beats and soul sounds well into 2018 and enjoy a champagne toast at midnight. Buy your tickets early as this event is likely to sell out! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mojo-green-new-years-eve-tickets-39928510249
— Laugh and usher in your first hangover with the Dan Band at Nugget Casino Resort. Foul-mouthed wedding singer Dan Finnerty turned Hollywood star will be entertaining guests as he belts out well-known raunchy tunes at the stroke of midnight. Group countdown and free champagne included. Tickets are on sale now at http://www.nuggetcasinoresort.com/events-en.html.
— However, if you really don’t feel like drinking but still want to dance, then head over to the Alano Club (1640 Prater Way) for munchies, music, and fun in a safe and sober environment. A $10 donation is suggested for the Alano Club’s New Year’s Eve Dance Party.
— If you’re in the mood for some popular one-hit wonders, check out Wunderlust’s last and first show of the year at the Sparks Lounge (1237 Baring Boulevard). No cover charge, champagne and party favors!
The Regional Transportation Commission is once again offering its Free Safe Ride program to folks with complimentary transit services on New Year’s Eve from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Start 2018 right with a safe and free ride; visit https://www.rtcwashoe.com/news/rtc-provides-new-years-eve-free-safe-ride/ for the NYE bus schedule.
