Reed

Vanessa Hernandez scored 15 points and Taylor Johnson added 12 points and seven rebounds to help lead the Reed girls basketball team to a thrilling 47-43 win over Galena on Saturday.

The Raiders got off to a slow start in the first half and found themselves trailing 19-12 at the break but took the lead after a 19-point third quarter. Serene Townsell-Williams had seven points in the win as seven girls got into the scoring column for Reed.

With the win, the Raiders moved to 12-1 overall and remain 1-0 in High Desert League play. They returned to conference play on Tuesday against North Valleys and will host Reno Friday night at 5:15 p.m.

Spanish Springs

It’s only game of the week, Spanish Springs welcomed nearby Lassen High from Northern California into its gym and came away with a 52-43 win. In a game that was tighter than the final score indicated, the Cougs held a slim 29-24 lead at the half and added on in the fourth to come away with the victory.

The Cougs overall record improved to 12-5 with the win.

The girls returned to league play yesterday at McQueen and will play at North Valleys Friday night in another conference matchup.

Sparks

The Sparks High girls basketball team returned to play over the weekend and fell in a pair of conference games.

The Railroaders made the long trip to Elko Friday night and suffered a 68-26 loss before turning around and playing on the road at Spring Creek on Saturday, where they lost 51-18.

Sparks came off the road on Tuesday to take on South Tahoe at home and will get back on the bus Friday when they travel to Fallon for 6 p.m. game with Churchill County.
