Many years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Star Trek creator, Gene Roddenberry, on a junket to Harold Smith, Jr.’s casino in Yugoslavia. In one conversation he said that the most memorable character he created for the sci-fi TV series was Mr. Spock.
One of Spock’s most memorable quotes was, “It does not compute.” That term might well be applicable to the dysfunction in our nation’s capitol.
The long litany should probably start with the Democrats’ almost veneration of former president Bill Clinton. Despite the fact that he faced impeachment and consistently lied about his romantic dalliances, he never drew the ire of the feminist movement. Today he would be a serious target for the “Me Too” group.
Another top Democrat, Barack Obama, who was a perennial prevaricator is also ranked highly in the firmament of liberal stars.
Recently the consistently addle-pated Nancy Pelosi almost went ballistic in her TV appearance when she spoke vehemently about the fact that the Trump tax cuts might cost more than $1 trillion over the next ten years. This is the same Pelosi that sat idly by without a whimper as President Obama doubled the national debt by $10 trillion in eight years.
For the past year, the most persistent Democrat anti-Trump Presidency rhetoric has been the collusion with Russia. This has morphed into the belief that Trump is unfit for the presidency. Lately, the amateur psychiatrists in the mainstream media have posed questions about Trump’s mental state. When his physicians gave Trump a clean bill of health and said that his cognitive ability was not erratic, it did not satisfy the liberal media.
Now comes word that the Congressional investigation about the Trump-Russia collusion has produced a riveting memo about the fact that the entire investigation into the matter may have been initiated by a false FISA warrant. That memo, which is scheduled to be released to the public, cites many highly-placed FBI and DOJ officials as being complicit. It is also speculated that the matter may reach as high as the Obama White House.
Many in Congress who have read the memo and the backup material to it have stated that it is far more serious than the infamous Watergate investigation that drove President Nixon from the White House.
The short-lived government shut-down that was caused by either Trump or House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, depending on your point of view, has now been touted as a victory for the President. As far as Schumer goes, he is doing his best to make Harry Reid look good. His latest move is to pull his support for the border wall from the negotiations. This has caused Trump to utter the strong statement, “Without the wall there is no DACA.”
Critics of Schumer’s unyielding support for the “Dreamers” have many people questioning his priorities. If, in fact, there are more than three million illegal alien children who are eligible to apply for DACA, it represents only one percent of the more than three hundred million people in this country.
When Obama created DACA by executive order he prefaced it by stating that he did not have the legal authority to do so. But he did it anyway.
Since only children born within the United States are guaranteed citizenship, savvy Latinas come to this country when they are pregnant in order to give birth here.
With the self-imposed deadline on a DACA solution looming shortly, it is unclear whether or not the entire situation may cause another government shutdown.
In his latest statement, President Trump said that he can see a path forward for Dreamers to attain citizenship in ten or twelve years. That statement may further inflame Schumer and his Democrats, who are determined to hold this country’s fiscal status hostage to illegal immigrants.
Another ploy by a half dozen or so Democrats in Congress is that they will boycott Trump’s State of the Union speech. The fact that these people are sent to Washington by the voters to perform their Constitutional duties seems to have no effect on them. Chief among those not attending is Congresswoman Waters, who is most famous for tossing her weight around against a lowly airport employee and constantly screeching out for Trump’s impeachment.
The late David Farside, who was a gifted political prognosticator, may have said it best when he stated that, “Whenever the political pendulum swings too far to the left, it will automatically swing too far to the right.”
