Spanish Springs senior first baseman Tanner Smith gets hit by a pitch during a 9-2 win over Churchill County on Saturday.

Spanish Springs bookended their opening season tournament with losses but won three in the middle to start the year with a record of 3-2.

The Cougs opened the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament with an 8-4 loss to Central Catholic, Calif. last Thursday, but bounced back the next day with a 13-3 win over Douglas and an 11-1 victory over Carson. The boys beat Churchill County 9-2 on Saturday in the morning before falling to Damonte Ranch 8-1 in the afternoon.

The Cougs hosted Wooster yesterday and play a return game against them tomorrow on the road at 3:45 p.m. They finish the week on Friday at home against Carson.
