After losing four of five games to Salt Lake, the Reno Aces rebounded last week at home and won its home series with Las Vegas, three games to two.
Reno opened the series with an 8-5 win last Wednesday before exploding for 21 hits and 20 runs in a 20-3 blowout on Thursday. The 51’s quieted the Aces bats on Friday with a 2-1 win and on Saturday scored three runs in the seventh to win 5-4.
The Aces struck last, however, on Sunday and came away with an 8-4 win to take the series. Joel Payamps made use of his first Triple-A start of the year, tossing four innings of one-hit, no-run baseball. The Aces jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead through two innings of play. Ildemaro Vargas led the charge offensively, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Braden Shipley picked up the win with two innings of one run ball.
The win moves Reno to a record of 25-33 this season and 14-15 at Greater Nevada Field.
The Aces are on the road the next week with three games at Nashville Tuesday through Thursday and four games at Memphis Friday through Monday. They return for a seven game home stand next Wednesday where they will host Iowa and Omaha.
