Despite a record night full of milestones, Saturday night was not meant to be as Reno 1868 FC fell to rival Sacramento Republic FC 2-1.
In front of 7,103 fans (club record), Reno put on one of the best 45 minutes at home this year despite not finding the back of the net.
Reno had four shots on target, including a header from forward Brian Brown that just missed by inches.
Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski’s acrobatic saves helped Reno enter halftime tied-up at 0-0.
Sacramento came out hot and just two minutes into the second half, Cameron Iwasa put Sacramento up 1-0 with his 12th goal of the season.
Reno’s night got worse in the 60th minute as Wilson Kneeshaw put Sacramento up 2-0 with a roller from outside the box. Reno was forced to once again come back from a 2-0 deficit against Sacramento in 2018.
Reno did create chances down the stretch, especially after midfielders Will Seymore and Gilbert Fuentes came onto the pitch.
Both made their debuts with Reno Saturday as Fuentes became the youngest player to suit-up for Reno 1868 FC.
Reno caught a break late in the 75th minute after Brian Brown was taken down in the box. Midfielder Seth Casiple converted from the spot to make it 2-1. Reno was still alive after chances by midfielder Antoine Hoppenot and defender Zach Carroll just missed by inches.
