By the time you read this the Kavanaugh saga should have been decided one way or the other. Since this was written last Thursday the most we can do is encapsulate what went on from day one of Trumps pick for the Supreme Court.
In early July the day after Trumps announcement democrat Senator Blumenthal arranged a press conference in front of the Supreme Court building where he firmly stated that Kavanaugh would not ever be seated because he was unfit for the job. This is the same Blumenthal, who as a member of the interviewing committee frequently touted his legalist ability and made it a point to say that if a subject was caught in a lie he is said to be untruthful in everything that follows. It should be noted that Blumenthal is the man who was caught lying about being a Vietnam Vet. I can only hope that he (Blumenthal) never meets a real Vietnam Vet while walking down a dark alley some night.
Biggest loser in the hearing has to be Kavanaugh whose personal history was trashed in front of the entire nation. Second biggest loser was the addlepated Diane Feinstein who violated committee protocol by waiting until the hearing was officially over to reveal that she had been in possession of a damaging letter from Dr. Ford, which stated that she was the victim of an attempted rape by Kavanaugh while in high school.
This bomb shell turned what had been a circus into a complete carnival.
Ringmaster of the process was Feinstein as she guided Dr. Ford through her selection of liberal lawyers and literally coddled her in setting the agenda for the committee. One of the worst ploys was the statement that Dr. Ford would have to go past the deadline set by the committee for her appearance because she had a fear of flying and would have to take several days to drive across the country. As it turns out at the same time Dr. Ford was actually sitting in Maryland and has a long history of flying all over the United States as well as taking many international flights. This fact was confirmed eventually by a former boyfriend of Ford’s
You have to admire the extreme patience of committee chairman Senator Grassley as he listened to the mindless vituperation of the ten democrat members. He constantly had to correct their misstatements and try to maintain order as the Dems constantly exceeded their time limits.
Chief elevator was “Spartacus” Booker. After a 20 minute diatribe of his overwhelming desire to be on the prestigious committee, he abruptly got up and exited the room. He was followed by lap dog Senator Harris, who like Booker is listed as a potential democrat candidate for president in 2020.
Senator Harris was one of four female members on the democrat side of the committee. Led by Feinstein the four resemble a coven of witches stirring a cauldron of hate. The female senator from Hawaii was as foul-mouthed as many of her male cohorts.
Just when the chairman was about to call for a final vote he was interrupted by Republican Senator Flake, by name and nature, who voted in favor but with the caveat that there be a one week pause while a limited in scope FBI further investigation be conducted. This investigation would be charged with finding some corroboration of Dr. Ford’s allegations. All through the hearing the democrat mantra was that Judge Kavanaugh was guilty and had to prove his innocence. The Dems rational was that since this was a job interview rather than a trial the rules were completely different.
Over the years I have been to more than a few job interviews myself and have never been asked to submit my high school year book or to address questions about my drinking habits.
Ostensibly the hearing was to assess Kavanaugh’s fitness as a judge based on his 12 year performance on the bench of the second highest court in the land. That quickly went by the boards as the Dems fixated on his scribblings in a year book when he was a teenager.
Prior to Trumps announcement of his pick Minority Leader Schumer said that he would do everything in his power to defeat any candidate put up by a Republican administration. Apparently Schumer was successful in setting the beat to which the Dems marched.
In essence chairman Grassley could have taken the vote right after he gaveled the committee into session.
