The number one story as this was being written last week was the number of suspicious packages sent thru the mail to Democrat critics of President Trump.
The blame for the mailing was quick to come from both sides of the political aisle. President Trump said that it was caused by the vocal Democrats and the main stream media. The charge from the other side was led by ex CIA director John Brennan. He blamed Trumps vitriol. Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi quickly joined Brennan by issuing a joint statement that said Trumps call for unity rang hollow.
Today with the mid-term elections a week away it is doubtful that the bomb issue will carry much weight. In fact the case may have already been solved.
With the main stream media particularly, CNN, pointing their fingers at Trump as the cause for the bomb debacle, a friend of mine who happens to be an ex-CIA agent has a different take on the matter. His theory is that since the bombs at the time of this writing were found to be duds there may be a flip side to the story. His theory was that the packages could have been mailed by a Democrat supporter in order to create some sympathy for the Left going into the mid-terms.
Be that as it may, it is now time to look at the election in general. On the national scene it is a question of whether or not you are in favor of continuing the robust economy or opting to return to the dismal days of the Obama administration. One of Ronald Regan’s most famous scripts was “Are you better off today then you were four yours ago”. Maybe President Trump should ask “Are you better off today then you were two years ago”.
Looking forward to the 2020 elections we can see a very flawed Democrat bench with crazy Uncle Joe Biden leading the pack with a 20 point edge over socialist Bernie Sanders. Other potential candidates for the donkey crowd rank only in single digits. If Biden should be the nominee we have to remember that he stood by, smiling and clapping, as Obama trashed the economy and the country.
The ever present Hilary Clinton attempted to change her spots after the bomb scare. She called for an end to divisiveness and offered a plea for unity. This was in sharp contrast to what she said the week before when she advocated incivility until the Democrats returned to power. Likewise former President Obama made a curious statement when he said that most of his decisions where fact-based. This flies in the face of decisions he made as President in his former omniscience he said that when he suffered a crushing midterm defeat that he could hear the voices of the people that did not vote. Also because of his vast legal knowledge he knew that he could not justify creating the “dreamers” by a single stroke of the pen but he went ahead and did it anyway.
On the local scene two Nevada races are getting a great deal of national attention. They would be the Heller-Rosen senatorial race and the Laxalt-Sisolak gubernatorial contest. Having watched the Heller-Rosen debate on TV I felt that Dean came off the better as Rosen’s demeanor was that of a snippy fishmongers wife. Heller had difficulty in attacking Rosen’s record as freshman congress women since Rosen has accomplish zero in her time in office. Rosen on the other hand, who is funded by millions of out of state money, assaulted Heller’s every change of mind.
Almost blasted off the news cycle by the bomb threats was the ever growing caravan of the illegals marching northward through Mexico in an attempt to force their way across the border. The caravan is extremely well organized and funded according to reports by Leftist groups and individuals. For his part, Trump has said that he will send troops to the border and none of the caravan participants will set foot illegally into the United States. For those people that say Trump has no right to send troops it might be well to remind them that in the past President Woodrow Wilson sent some 75,000 soldiers to the border when Pancho Villa was making incursions into this country.
Interesting to note Senator Elizabeth Warren can no longer claim Indian heritage as she look a DNA test, possibly inspired by Trumps offer to pay her a million dollars if the test confirmed she was indeed a partial Native American.
