Spanish Springs
Boys: Spanish Springs’ boys basketball team rebounded from its first two losses of the season with a 55-34 win over visiting Lincoln, Calif. Friday night in Sparks.
Ten Cougars got into the scoring column, led by 10 from senior Michael Jefferson, in a game that was all but decided at halftime. Spanish Springs led 33-11 at the break.
Brock O’Connell, Cordell Stinson and Mason Whittaker each had eight points in the win while seniors Jesse Coats and Nate Miller got into the act with three.
The Cougs now turn their attention to teams closer to home as the remainder of the schedule will be played in Northern Nevada. They hosted Douglas yesterday and play at Bishop Manogue tomorrow before opening up High Desert League play next Friday at home against McQueen.
Spanish Springs has the second best record in the conference so far at 13-2 followed by Reed at 12-1.
Girls: The Cougar girls traveled to Southern Nevada last week for a tournament and played four games in three days.
After knocking off Virgin Valley 58-24 on Wednesday afternoon, the Cougs took care of Rancho 56-9 later in the day. On Thursday, the girls got past Durango 44-15 before falling 50-44 on Friday to Green Valley in the final game of the tourney.
The three wins move the Cougs record to 10-5 overall. They hosted Douglas yesterday and play at Bishop Manogue tomorrow evening.
Reed
The Raiders boys and girls teams both had last week off and are set to begin their post-holiday schedule.
After playing at Bishop Manogue yesterday, Reed hosts Damonte Ranch Friday before opening up High Desert League play next week.
Reed’s boys record sits at 12-1 overall as of Monday night and the Raider girls sit at 3-5.
Sparks
After picking up its third win of the season over McDermitt Dec. 29, the Sparks boys basketball team opened up league play this week on the road.
Both the boys and girls teams played at Fernley yesterday and will travel to North Valleys on Friday. The Railroader boys are 3-8 so far this season and the girls are 0-5.
