News from home and abroad

March 7, 2019 By Harry Spencer Leave a Comment

Big news last week was that while President Trump was in Vietnam for a summit meeting with Kim, the Democrat Congressional Oversight Committee just by coincidence brought Michael Cohen in for three days of hearings. The first day was closed door, but the second day was a seven hour public hearing to be followed by another closed door on the third day.

As expected, the compliant liberal media sought to ignore Trump’s summit in favor of dissecting every Cohen utterance.

As is always the case, the Democrat members of the committee fawned over Cohen while the Republican members brought up the fact that they were taking testimony from an individual who has previously lied to Congress and was getting ready for an impending jail sentence.

The Republican inquisitors also brought up Cohen’s long history of bank fraud, tax evasion and taping of many of his clients.

The individuals on the right also managed to catch Cohen in a number of contradictions. They also called for several interruptions in order to submit written correspondence against Cohen.

In his lengthy opening statement, Cohen called Trump a racist, con-man and cheat.

He did his best to appear as a contrite individual, who had been born again and was no more the despicable individual he had been.

As is always the case, most of the Dem questioners use their five minutes to deliver politically motivated speeches that consistently bashed Trump.

At the end of the tedious hearing, Chairman Elijah Cummings, fresh from his cameo appearance at the Oscars, gave a long sermon in which he sympathized with Cohen because of his current predicament and by inference noted the country was at a low point with Trump as President.

All in all the entire hearing seemed like a messy divorce after 10 years of blissful marriage.

A mugging in Reno. Following their loss to San Diego State, which was largely due to poor officiating, the Nevada Basketball Team almost suffered the same fate when Fresno State came to Reno.

In what looked like a mixed martial arts contest, the Bulldogs from Fresno played a very physical, foul-filled game against the Wolf Pack. Once again, the three officials looked like they were trying out for NBA positions where the officiating this season has been more abysmal than previous years.

Players from both teams were scattered about the floor on far too many occasions. Most of the fouls that Fresno delivered were extremely physical and it is a wonder that no serious injuries occurred. Testament to the wildness of the game was the fact that Fresno had some 26 infractions to Nevada’s 10 and two of the Fresno players fouled out.

In the San Diego State slug fest, Coach Musselman was close to being tossed as he went nose to nose with one of the officials.

The good news for Musselman is that he bounced back with an 18 point win over Las Vegas. Also, he has been named a finalist for the prestigious Naismith Award.

Democrat presidential hopefuls. Among the candidates for the Democratic nomination for president it is interesting to note that each has a proposal that probably emanates from the Gangrene New Deal espoused by AOC. For Kamala Harris it is the destruction of the entire insurance industry, for Senator Gillibrand it is the abolishment of ICE, for Cory Booker it is the discontinuance of eating meat as he himself is a Vegan, for Beto it is the tearing down of all existing fences on the southern border, for Bernie Sanders it is free college and anything else he can think of and for AOC her latest pronouncement is that in order to stop climate change people should stop having babies. Speaking of AOC, she is now the recipient of several pricey billboards on Times Square chastising her for her efforts in chasing Amazon out of New York. Currently, she is taking the same stand regarding Amazon moving to Virginia. As for the New York fiasco the city’s mayor Bill de Blasio, a fellow liberal, has blamed Amazon for walking away.

Still ranting and raving, the self-proclaimed creator of the democrat social shift, Bernie Sanders, is still atop the various surveys of Democrat preference. With the amount of money he has raised so far he has put the other hopefuls in almost untenable positions. In addition, we still have a non-Indian Elizabeth Warren promising to soak the rich if she is elected.
