Democrats voting for a Presidential candidate are confronted by an ever growing field of contenders.
Leading the pack are two old white men in the persons of Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, who have over 50% of likely winners. The rest of the field, which was recently joined by Beto-O’Rourke, is mostly in the single digits. Each of the Dem candidates so far has peculiar views on certain subjects. For Bernie it is Medicare for all and free College. For Joe Biden it is a continuation of the woeful policies of President Obama. For Kamala Harris it is the abolition of insurance companies, Medicare for all and universal legalized prostitution. For Elizabeth Warren it is soak the rich, break up big tech, and impeach Trump. For Cory Booker it is stop eating meat and become a vegan like me. For Kirsten and Gillibrand it is abolish ICE. For Beto it is to tear down existing border walls and unite Democrats and Republicans. On the later issue he is probably channeling his inner Obama. Also Beto’s gesticulating oratorical style reminds one of the scare crow of the Wizard of Oz. Still lurking in the bushes is Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey.
There are about a dozen others that have hinted that may cast their cast into the ring***
Two big stories topped the national scene last week. One was about the mega-rich participating in a college entrance scheme “Varsity Blues”. It was orchestrated by a single individual who collected hundreds of thousands of dollars from parents that wanted their children to attend a specific University. The athletic skills of the youngsters were fabricated and their SAT high scores were actually garnered by other persons. The net result of this was that actresses in Hollywood lost their high paying jobs and many college coaches and teachers were fired. Those who suffered most were the poorer applicants who had studied hard and were knocked out of contention.
When Senator Warren, no stranger to fabricating her ancestry to gain admission to college as a minority, was asked what she thought of the current scandal, she said she had zero sympathy for the parents.
Second major story was the grounding of Boeing 737 airplanes throughout the world, including the United States which was last country to do so. Apparently there was an automatic system that caused the nose of the airplane to drop, over which the pilot could correct***
One of the big items in Washington that is gaining more and more support is the fact that reparations are due to the descendants of slaves that were once held in bondage in this country. With the tremendous lack of documents it is going to be difficult to determine the lineage of the survivors. Ever since the slaves were freed by Lincoln their progeny has been able to compete on the same level as other Americans. The only reparations that should be paid is to the actual slaves***
Too bad Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes isn’t available at this time because with Holmes deductive reasoning he could put the Hillary Clinton investigation in perspective. Starting at the bottom and connecting the dots he could work his way up to Attorney General Loretta Lynch who ordered the FBI to stand down when it came to indicting Hillary for her e-mail scandal.
The above comes from the fact that the testimony of disgrace FBI official, Lisa Page was recently released and it stated the DOJ had done so. The fact that President Obama was intensely interested in the Hillary “matter” as Lynch called it and that Lynch was assured in her secret meeting with Bill Clinton she would remain as AG if Hillary became President. It seems that some powerful people were engaged in the cover up***
At this writing the University Basketball team has just won its first game in the Mountain West Tournament. They triumphed over a pesky Boise State team which dominated the Wolf Pack tours in the first half. With its zone defense Boise was able to neutralize much of the Pack’s interior shooting, particularly lay-ups. In fact, Nevada almost went without a field goal in the first half. This was largely because of excessive dribbling, which is not the way to beat a zone.
Coming out for the second half Nevada passed the ball briskly and got some wide open shots.
