The Aces have completed their first road trip of the season and are ready for some home cooking. Reno dropped to 1-4 on the young season with a 7-6 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies Monday Afternoon.
Left-hander Anthony Vasquez was tagged for four runs in five innings of work, but did not get a decision. Travis Snider continued his blazing-hot start with a 2-for-4 performance, increasing his average to .455 through five games. Reno tied things up in the top of the 9th but saw the tie disappear in the bottom half on a Raudy Read walk-off double.
Fresno got into the scoring column in the bottom of the second inning with a Yadiel Hernandez home run (2) off Vasquez. Reno responded immediately, posting three runs in the top of the third.
Kelby Tomlinson got the rally started with a double into left field. Vasquez helped his own cause with an RBI single into right, scoring Tomlinson and tying the ballgame at one. Abraham Almonte followed immediately with a two-run shot, his first of the season, to give Reno a 3-1 advantage. Fresno took a 6-4 advantage through six innings of play, but Reno chipped away to tie things in the top half of the 9th inning. Read sent them packing with a double on a Jimmie Sherfy heater.
The Aces opened its home schedule yesterday and will host Albuquerque and El Paso this week.
