The 4A Northern Regional playoffs are underway and a pair of schools familiar with each other met up for a third time this season in the first round.
Spanish Springs and Reed faced off on Tuesday (after press time) after the Cougs beat the Raiders 8-3 and 13-3 in a pair of games they played last week. The wins gave Spanish Springs (14-4) the No. 3 seed and Reed (8-10) the No. 6 seed in the eight team bracket.
The winner of that game will face off against the winner of No. 2 Galena (14-4) and No. 7 McQueen (7-11) today at 4 p.m.
In the top half of the bracket, No. 1 Reno (15-3) played No. 8 Douglas yesterday and No. 4 Bishop Manogue (12-6) faced off against No. 5 Damonte Ranch (9-9).
The home teams hosted the first round and Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s games will be played at Peccole Park on the campus of the University of Nevada-Reno. The title game is set for Saturday at 12 p.m.
