A pair of familiar opponents met up in the 4A Northern Region baseball tournament last Tuesday as Spanish Springs and Reed faced off for the third time in a week.
The two teams played each other on the final games of the regular season when the Cougs won both, and the playoffs were no different. Spanish Springs scored two in the third and four in the fourth to pick up a 6-0 win and send the Raiders into the losers bracket.
Reed was then eliminated the next day after falling to McQueen 5-2. It was a quick exit in the tourney for the No. 6 seed as they went on to finish the season 14-17 overall.
Spanish Springs went on to take a tough 5-4 loss to Galena on Wednesday before falling 6-3 to Bishop Manogue on Thursday to end their season.
The Cougars finished the year 21-7 overall after going 14-4 in league play and ending the season in third place.
Bishop Manogue was stunned in the first game by Damonte Ranch, but battled back to reach the title game out of the losers bracket against Reno. The Huskies won the title game 12-2. Both teams will represent the north in state this week in Las Vegas.
