The Reno Aces attempted to mount a late-inning comeback Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field but ultimately fell short. Memphis took advantage of a five-run seventh inning to secure a 7-4 victory and win game three of the four-game series.
The Aces scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth and one in the ninth but couldn’t come up with the game-winning hit.
Braden Shipley got the start for manager Chris Cron Sunday afternoon and gave the crowd of 4,643 a show. The right-hander turned in his best start of the season (6.0 IP, 2 R, 6 K, 1 BB) before handing it over to the bullpen. Bradin Hagens allowed five runs on five hits in the seventh inning and recorded one out.
The Aces rebounded with a 6-4 win Monday to improve to 28-36 after a 5-2 home stand.
After opening the week with a three-game sweep of Nashville (12-11, 3-2, 11-10), Reno dropped Friday’s game to the Redbirds 10-4 before winning Saturday’s game, 5-3.
The team still sits in last place in the PCL Pacific Northern division and begins a seven-game road trip Wednesday with three at Round Rock and four at San Antonio.
