The Sparks football team celebrates after Friday’s 34-0 win over Hug High.
The Sparks High football team did something Friday night that they hadn’t done in nearly a decade when they shut out Hug, 34-0. It was the first season-opening win for the Railroaders since 2010 when they beat Yerington, 29-22.
Sparks stuck with the ground and pound game plan and ran the ball right through the Hawks the entire game. The team rushed for 366 total yards, led by Taylor Shepard who had 168 and a touchdown. Cole Meacham, Tyler Green and Trezell Patterson each accounted for a rushing touchdown, while Green also connected with Patterson through the air for a score.
Sparks (1-0) will look to keep the momentum going Friday night when they host Lowry at 7 p.m. The Buckaroos are coming off of a 46-42 win over Pahrmup Valley in week one of the season.
