I suggest trading Texas straight across for the melting Denmark-owned island. Most Americans should support throwing in the entire Confederacy to sweeten the deal.

REPORT FROM THE MEMORIAL GATHERING – About 200 people from as far away as the Philippines, Ireland (and the former state of Texas) gathered last Sunday to mark the passing of Tribune alumnus and Reno News & Review News Editor Dennis Myers (1948-2019). The Rail City resident died after a massive stroke. Generous even in death, he donated his organs for transplant.
Sparks was well represented by Assemblymember Skip Daly, D-Sparks, former Sparks deputy city attorney and Nevada Attorney General Bill Isaeff and Reno-Sparks NAACP President Lonnie Feemster. Former NAACP President and retired firefighter Kenny Dalton surprised us and looked great after recent kidney transplant surgery.
The gathering was held at Reno’s McKinley Arts Center on the banks of the Truckee River. Dennis’ ashes will be scattered at Pyramid Lake, a legendary mystical and holy place, the terminus of the Truckee on the Paiute Reservation.
LA VOZ HISPANA EN NEVADA Publisher Andres Gonzales will print an extensive remembrance of Myers in this week’s edition. I’ve given him permission to excerpt anything I’ve written about my old friend for his bi-lingual regional newspaper. It’s available in businesses including the popular Marketon grocery on Wells Avenue in mid-town Reno.

NAIL BITING TIME. We will know this week if Dennis and/or his fellow Tribune stalwarts Jake Highton and Don Dondero have made it into the Nevada Press Association Hall of Fame. All have been inducted into the much more exclusive Barbwire Molly Ivins Memorial Columniators Hall of Flames.
The great Moll, who died at 62 in 2007, is the subject of a new movie premiering in Tejas this month. It’s title? “Raise hell.” (I didn’t come up with that. The legendary Mary Harris “Mother” Jones did.)
My favorite Ivins aspersions: About the speaker of the Texas lower house: “If his IQ gets any lower, we’ll have to water him twice a day.”
About Bill Clinton: “He’s as weak as bus station chili. ”
Damn, I miss my HOF idols.
