For just the second time ever, Reno 1868 FC drew 0-0 at home tonight. Los Azules came away with a point against El Paso Locomotive FC to move to 16-10-6 (54 points) on the season. The total keeps the club in third place in the USL’s Western Conference and adds to the gap between the boys in blue and fourth-place Real Monarchs SLC, who currently have 46 points.
“I think it was a good game,” said head coach Ian Russell. “We played well, we worked hard and pressed them. I thought we did what we planned to do, we had some chances but so did they.”
The draw comes largely on the back of goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, who earned the clean sheet with nine saves. The clean sheet is his second in the last three matches at home, and fourth of the season. The club has now notched seven clean sheets, six of which have come at Greater Nevada Field.
“I think the defense played really well in front of me,” said Marcinkowski. “I’m just trying to do my job.”
Marcinkowski’s nine saves move him into the team lead with 63.
Reno will be on the road next weekend for a Silver State Cup match against Las Vegas Lights FC. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.
