One of Sparks’ most distinguished natives passed away on October 17, this year. His name was Procter Hug, Jr., who was the Chief Judge emeritus of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. His obituary cited a long and impressive judicial career which gained him all sorts of awards.
In addition to having a fine legal mind, he was a superb athlete both at Sparks High and the University of Nevada.
I first interacted with Procter some 10 or 12 years ago when I interviewed him for a cover story in the Senior Spectrum magazine. Getting into the Bruce Thompson Courthouse and Federal Building on Virginia Street I had to pass a strict security check before being whisked to the top floor where Hug had his expansive office. He was a very personable and accommodating individual. The interview took several such meetings and at the end the Judge shared some historical and personal material with me that highlighted many of the activities of his father Procter Hug Sr.
He may well be, because of his long career in jurisprudence, the most distinguished citizen to have been born in Sparks***.
ON THE NATIONAL SCENE. The most important news that came out at the end of last week was that the Durham investigation had become a criminal investigation. This means that Durham, who is assisting Attorney General Barr in the matter of the origins of the Russia Probe, now has the ability to subpoena, interview and possibly charge individuals who were at the top of the Obama Administration. Names like Clapper, Brennan, Comey and many others are about to be revealed as the prime motivators. This long awaited expose is the main reason the Democrats, led by shifty Schiff have inaugurated their phony Impeachment Investigation***.
WILL SHE EVER SHUT UP? In her latest outburst Hillary Clinton seems to have gone completely off the rails. In it she accused Presidential Candidate Tulsi Gabbard of being a Russian asset. Hillary said that she was being sought out by the Russians to run a third party candidate. Tulsi, no shrinking violet herself, fired back at Clinton by saying the former First Lady was largely responsible for the rot in the Democrat Party. The upshot of this back and forth has given the Gabbard campaign a boost as the Presidential candidate is a former member of the armed services and still serving in the reserves.
While all this is going on, Hillary is supposedly considering a third try at the Presidency. In her current TV appearances she seems more pudgy, smug, superior and as supercilious than ever before. In most of her television interviews she appears with her daughter Chelsea who is the co-author of her latest tome. Hillary is constantly finding new reasons she lost the election, her latest being some flashes on the dark web. She has yet to explain what the dark web is***.
BIDEN’S MEMORY FAILS AGAIN. In response to President Trump’s assertion that the current impeachment farce is more like a lynching, Joe Biden’s response was he was aghast that the Pres. would use such a racially charged word. Biden was brought up short when a TV clip of him, during the Clinton impeachment, had him using the same “lynch” word. Biden, who has been caught in a number of fabrications and gaffes, has seen his poll numbers drop precipitously over the last few weeks. In many cases he is running behind Senator Warren.
As for Warren herself, whatever she taught when she was a school teacher, it certainly must not have been mathematics. This is obvious because she has yet to explain how she proposes to pay for “Medicare for all”, which has been one of the main planks in per platform. All of the other Democrat candidates on stage with her in the last debate attacked her for her “pie in the sky” proposal. From the time that Warren first started promoting herself on camera by swilling beer from a beer bottle she has delivered a series of statements that have been proven untrue by checking the record. One of her most famous quotes was that she had been fired from her teaching position because of the fact that she was pregnant. Records show that such was not the case. She was offered additional employment which she turned down.
