Sparks City Council Highlight

The following are highlights from the Nov. 25 Sparks City Council meeting.

Commendations / Proclamations

  • City of Sparks Planning Manager Jim Rundle was recognized as the 2019 Professional Planner of the Year by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association.
  • City Manager Neil Krutz announced one vacancy on the Airport Noise Advisory Panel and two vacancies on the Sparks Planning Commission. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, November 27.
  • Krutz also announced two vacancies on the Enterprise Fund Advisory Committee. The vacancies on this committee require representation from both the residential and commercial construction industries. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
  • The Sparks Citizens Advisory Committee seeks one alternate member for Ward 2 and a regular member for Ward 3. Applications will be accepted through Monday, December 16, 2019.
  • The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee seeks two members for two-year terms. Interested individuals with performing arts and visual arts background may apply by Monday, December 16.

General Business

  • The Sparks City Council authorized the acceptance of $120,000 from the Reno Rodeo Association to assist in the design and construction costs of the Sparks Marina All-Abilities Playground project.
  • Council approved a threeyear $313,412.76 licensing agreement with iland Internet Solutions Corporation to safeguard the city’s files and data.
  • The city council approved refinancing outstanding star bonds to take advantage of lower interest rates and approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the city of Sparks and Sparks Legends Development, Inc. memorializing the parties’ understanding of the issuance of additional future STAR Bonds.
