High School Basketball Season Underway in Northern Nevada

Boys: After opening the season with a 59- 55 win against Folsom, Calif. on Nov. 30, the Spanish Springs High boys basketball team knocked off Damonte Ranch 65-62 last Tuesday before playing in the Wild West Shootout over the weekend.

Trey Hummel led the Cougs with 20 points on Thursday as the Cougs beat Monterey Trail 79-70. The boys fell to Jesuit, Calif. 49- 40 on Friday and lost to Birmingham, Calif. 67-31 on Saturday. Mason Whitaker led the Cougs with 15 in the loss.

Spanish Springs (3-2) was back at it this week at Galena yesterday and home games against Grants Pass, Ore. and Lincoln, Calif. Thursday and Friday.

Girls: The Cougar girls are off to a hot start after opening the season with four wins.

After beating Damonte Ranch 73-38 last Tuesday, the Cougs played in the Winter Tip Off where they knocked off Springs Creek 66-31 Thursday, Foothill 52-21 Friday and Lowry 59-22 on Saturday.

Spanish Springs (4-0) played at Galena yesterday and hosts Grants Pass, Ore. tomorrow.

Reed

Boys: The Reed High School boys basketball team opened the season with a 63-51 loss to Galena last Tuesday, before stringing together three wins at the Justin Gardener Memorial Tournament later in the week.

The Raiders knocked off Burbank, Calif. 81- 72 on Thursday before beating Nevada Union 58-34 Friday. They capped of the tournament on Saturday with a 75-42 win over River City, Calif.

Reed (3-1) played at Carson yesterday and hosts Foothill Saturday.

Girls: The Raiders (1-0) began play last Tuesday with a 33-23 win at home against Galena.

The girls played at Carson yesterday and are home next against Wooster on Dec. 19.
