LAS VEGAS — A new pedestrian bridge opened Monday on the Las Vegas Strip, connecting the Park MGM and Showcase mall.
It’s the 17th pedestrian bridge to have opened on the tourist-destination boulevard since the first one opened in 1995.
The elevated walkways are designed to keep pedestrians and visitors safety above heavy traffic on the Strip, packed with flashing lights, neon signs and lighted marquees.
The intersection where the latest bridge opened sees more than 60,000 cars and 10,000 people crossing every day, according to Clark County.
Construction started on the bridge a little more than a year ago.
County officials said the next pedestrian bridge to open on the Strip will connect the Bellagio to Planet Hollywood. Construction for that project is expected to start within two years.
