It seems that people are more festive than ever this fall, itching to get out and spend time with friends and family. Fortunately, here in Sparks there are more than a dozen upcoming events between now and early December that encourage people to get fit, stay healthy, have fun, and get a head start on their holiday shopping. Here’s what’s coming up:
COVID-19 and Flu Vaccine Clinic at Sparks Middle School
November 10, 5-7 p.m.
Over on 2275 18th Street, Immunize Nevada and the Community Health Alliance will be hosting a free flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic tonight (Wednesday, November 10) from 5-7 p.m. Janssen, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines will be on hand as well as quadrivalent and high dose flu vaccines. Parents must be present to give consent for any minors who show up to get immunized.
Fall Pub Run at Pinon Bottle Co.
November 11, 6 p.m.
On Thursday, November 11, the Reno Running Company is hosting its second “race” of its Fall Pub Run Series. Meet up with fellow runners at Pinon Bottle Co. at 1130 Avenue of the Oaks to take part in a relay race followed by beers and snacks.
Holiday Wine & Craft Fair at Engine 8 Urban Winery
November 14, 1-5 p.m.
Engine 8 Urban Winery’s Mother’s Day Craft Fair was such a tremendous success in the spring that it is bringing it back for the fall! Grab a warm cup of mulled wine and cruise through the variety of local vendors to find the perfect, unique gifts.
United Rentals Blue Thursday Used Equipment Sale
November 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Next Thursday, November 18, head over to United Rentals on 790 Glendale Avenue to get your pick of used heavy equipment for sale at a great price! There are at least 41 pieces of equipment being offered, anywhere from scissor lifts and forklifts to mini excavators, light towers, and industrial sized heaters. Sparks Art Walk Tours
November 18, 4-6 p.m.
After picking up a forklift from United, head over to Victorian Square to take a walk on the art side. Head down to Lillard Park located next to the Depot Gallery at 4 p.m. and learn about all the sculptures, murals, and landmarks in the heart of Downtown Sparks. Tours last about 45 minutes and is followed by the Third Thursday event with additional food, performances, and activities that go until 9 p.m.
23rd Annual Scheels Turkey Trot
November 25, 8:30 a.m.
The Scheels Turkey Trot is back this Thanksgiving, serving up a large helping of healthy family fun before settling in to feast and watch football. This annual event in its 23rd year is a fantastic way to burn calories and contribute to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the City of Sparks Scholarship Fund. The Price Is Right- Live Stage Show at the Nugget Casino Resort
November 26 & 27, 4 p.m. & 8 p.m.
The Price Is Right is coming to Sparks for a live stage show on Black Friday and the following day, and you are invited to see the action live and in person and may even have a chance to “Come On Down” to win great prizes! Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Victorian Square
December 3, 6:30 p.m.
Head down to Victorian Square the night before the traditional Hometowne Christmas Parade to watch City of Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson flip the switch to light up the city’s beautiful living blue spruce tree, decorated and put on display this one time of the year. As part of the tree lighting event, the Sparks Rotary Club will also be pulling the winning tickets for its Mad Money Raffle, with a thousand dollars cash as its grand prize (with proceeds going to Kids Free Fishing Day, youth rotary programs, Sparks Police Explorers, and Lincoln Park/Diedrichsen elementary schools. Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade
December 4: 1 p.m.
The much beloved Hometowne Christmas Parade is back, inviting everyone to come out with their friends and family to join their neighbors and make new friends as artistically decorated floats, classic cars, bands, and special performances glide through the main streets in and around Victorian Square.
