On April 8 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Nevada Humane Society will be hosting its annual Heels & Hounds champagne brunch event at Peppermill Resort. Now in its seventh year, this event includes a fabulous morning of puppies, fashion, jewelry, brunch, champagne, silent (and live) auctions, shopping from local vendors, entertainment, and more.
Local MC and pet supporter Adonna Does Morre will be hosting the fashion show once again, highlighting models who are volunteers, donors, doctors, and others who will walk the runway with fostered friends or their own furry soulmates. Attendees will hear stories of the people who’ve worked with Nevada Humane Society pets, trained, fostered them, and the other life-saving work that the shelter has done for Northern Nevada’s animals.
For instance, one two-year-old special needs shepherd/heeler mix dog named Candelara will be in attendance, who recently had an emergency surgery done on his hind quarters that resulted in the loss of one of his back legs and is learning to walk again.
“He is brown and white, has big ears, and is so cute,” says Nevada Humane Society Marketing Assistant Nikki Moylan.
Unlimited champagne will be flowing, along with a breakfast frittata Friuli formed of either prosciutto, spinach, fontina cheese, caramelized onions and topped with baby tomatoes and basil relish or a vegetarian version without the prosciutto.
The theme this year is Bubbles & Buddies, so expect lots of rose gold, silver, free flowing champagne, and adoptable pets. There will also be a jewelry roulette where attendees will get the chance to spin the wheel to win shiny and sparkly accessories.
“This is one of the two major events for us; Heels and Hounds raises over $100,000. Last year we raised over $175,000,” says Moylan. Its other big fundraising event is an annual duck race held in late August at Wingfield Park.
The Nevada Humane Society has been the only open admission, no-kill animal shelter in the Northern Nevada area since 2007 and it provides care and furever homes to more than 18,000 pets in need annually.
Tickets for the event are on sale now through https://nevadahumanesociety.org/events/heels-hounds-2023/. Sipping Sidekick Single Seat tickets cost $175, the Fizzy Friend Table of 10 tickets cost $1,575, and the Sparkling Supporter VIP tables cost $2,250. More than half of the seats have already been sold, so claim your ticket while you can. This is a humans-only event, besides the pets that will be available for adoption.
“We are always so excited to host this event because it’s an amazing opportunity to adopt and it’s an awesome opportunity to recognize and show appreciation to our volunteers, employees, and fosters, and highlight their stories. It’s such a fun and entertaining event,” Moylan adds.
