The Sparks City Attorney’s office announces the results of Friday’s sting operation at the Target and Scheels in Sparks that resulted in another three shoplifting arrests, one citation for a minor who was shoplifting, and another separate arrest for obstructing and resisting an officer. Friday’s sting operation comes on the heels of last Wednesday’s sting operation at Safeway in Sparks. So far, the “Back our Businesses” initiative has resulted in 33 arrests.
Last week, City Attorney Wes Duncan launched his “Back Our Businesses” initiative in partnership with Sparks Police and implemented a zero-tolerance policy focusing on deterring retail theft, seeking restitution, and prosecuting repeat offenders that victimize businesses.
“Last week’s sting operations were successful in terms of arresting more thieves and deterring future crimes. The message should be clear that the Sparks City Attorney’s Office and Sparks Police will be vigilant in cracking down on retail theft. I also want to thank loss prevention personnel from Scheels, Target, employees at Safeway, and the team from Vigilant Asset Protection for their assistance this past week.”
The initiative will continue to focus on coordinated plain clothes/undercover operations, targeted enforcement, surveillance, and coordinated efforts with loss prevention in some of the hardest-hit stores in the City of Sparks. After arrest, Sparks Police will work with the Sparks City Attorney’s Office to prosecute offenders who break the law. These operations will continue without notice to the public to protect businesses from retail theft.
