Washoe County commissioners voted 3-2 on Wednesday to appoint Deputy Registrar of Voters Cari-Ann Burgess to the interim registrar role. Commissioners Jeanne Herman and Mike Clark were in opposition.
Burgess’ appointment comes after former Registrar Jamie Rodriguez’s resignation on Jan. 2. That was part of a significant wave of turnover in the election workforce in Nevada since 2020.
According to Burgess’ LinkedIn, she was an elections administrator in Minnesota from 2017 to 2022.
During public comment, several people questioned Burgess’ experience and recommended Tracey Hilton-Thomas — a Republican running against incumbent Clara Andriola in District 4 in the upcoming election — take on the role instead.
Hilton-Thomas was praised in prominent Republican donor Robert Beadles’ blog for her questioning of the county’s handling of the 2020 election.
