
Sparks City Council Member Joe Rodriguez was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of drunk driving after a crash in a state vehicle.
He was taken into custody at 3:10 a.m Saturday, Feb. 21, on a charge of DUI above the legal limit, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
His arrest followed a crash in a state vehicle and he has been suspended from his state job pending an investigation, 8 News Now reported.
Mr. Rodriguez was elected as Sparks City Councilmember in November of 2024. He served on the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees from 2021 through November 2024, representing District C, which includes North Valleys and Spanish Springs communities, Natchez, and Gerlach
Councilmember Rodriguez is a Nevada Army National Guard veteran with 11 years of service, including deployments to Afghanistan and Haiti. He holds degrees in criminal justice and fire science and is currently the Assistant State Fire Marshal for the Nevada State Police/State Fire Marshal Division. He oversees budget and daily operations, including enforcing fire prevention laws, investigating arson, mitigating hazardous materials incidents, and responding to wildland fires. He also serves as a law enforcement officer and assists allied law enforcement as needed.
