The City of Sparks will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest fire station on May 9 at 4 p.m. The event will be held at 6963 Scheidbar Road in north Sparks where Fire Station 6 is being constructed.
“We are thrilled to begin construction of our newest fire station,” said Mayor Ed Lawson. “The Spanish Springs area is seeing tremendous growth, and building our newest fire station in this area will ensure faster emergency response times for the safety of our residents.”
The Sparks City Council approved issuing up to $15M in bonds to build and equip Fire Station 6. The new station should take about 18 months to build.
MULTI-CASUALTY INCIDENT DRILL TO BE HELD ON VICTORIAN SQUARE MAY 14
The City of Sparks and Northern Nevada Public Health, in partnership with local hospitals, law enforcement, emergency responders, and members of the Inter-Hospital Coordinating Council will be conducting a one-day full-scale exercise to test local response to capabilities in a multi-casualty incident. The exercise will also test the MCI Plan, specifically focusing on the self-transport component and surge of the emergency departments.
When: May 14
Time: 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Where: Nugget Event Center, Victorian Ave.
Volunteer “actors” will be portraying community members involved in the incident and are critical to the success of the exercise and the ability to improve response efforts.
“The drill is meant to simulate a real emergency crisis,” said City of Sparks Emergency Manager Scott Means. “We want to make sure the community knows that this is a drill and not a true emergency as the scenarios will look authentic.”
Road Closures on Victorian Ave. and Victorian Plaza Circle will be in place on May 14 from 2 a.m. through 4 p.m.
