Most amazing political news last week occurred on Super Tuesday – or as Joe Biden likes to call it Super Thursday – when Biden seemed to rise from the dead and outmaneuver former Dem leader Bernie Sanders. Biden’s overall performance was probably best illustrated in the state of Massachusetts. Mass. was supposed to go to Elizabeth Warren, but she finished a dismal third. What … [Read more...]
Trump wins Dem debate
The Seven Democrat Dwarfs were on full display at their debate last week. The event turned out to be raucous, tumultuous, and chaotic. Even the moderators were flabbergasted at the constant over-shouting and disregard for the time limits. Once again, the candidates showed their true colors. It is impossible for anyone to take them seriously as standard bearers for their … [Read more...]
Democratic Debacle
So far, 2020 has been a series of missteps by the Democrat Party. First there was their failed almost yearlong phony impeachment, second was their Iowa caucus fiasco, third was their disastrous debate in Las Vegas. It is hard to determine which self-inflicted wound was the worst. In the Vegas debate the two female candidates showed their vicious sides when Warren went after … [Read more...]
Former Mayor Passes
Biggest area story last week was the passing of former Reno Mayor Bob Cashell. Unfortunately, in the first edition of the daily Reno paper the bulk of the obituary on Bob was left out. To their credit the paper apologized and ran the complete story in two later editions. It isn’t often that the word “legendary” can be applied to a local citizen, but in Bob’s case it was … [Read more...]
Impeachment Ends
By a near party line vote of 52-48 on Article I: Abuse of Power and a party line vote of 53-47 on Article II: Obstruction of Congress, President Trump was acquitted by the Senate and the faux impeachment jury and trial ended last week. Only one Republican, Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, broke with his party to judge Trump guilty of abuse of power. It was a week of big news … [Read more...]
Impeachment or Inquisition?
This afternoon the final vote on the Articles of Impeachment will be held. This mercifully will end over two weeks of rancorous debate that occupied wall-to-wall coverage on television. To summarize the ending of the trial, the general consensus is that Adam Schiff and his merry band of prosecutors brought a flawed and unfair case to the Senate. Their overriding theme was … [Read more...]
Embarrassing Impeachment
When this was written last week, the house managers on the impeachment trial were in the middle of their last day of presenting their case. The opening part began on Tuesday of last week and the amount of time to be used by Trump’s team was still unknown at the time of this writing. Many observers of the trial thought that Senate Minority Leader Schumer had pulled an … [Read more...]
Impeachment Fiasco
By the time you read this, the impeachment trial in the Senate will be underway. It remains to be seen if the Democrats succeed in their quest for witnesses and documents. On that matter, it is not the Senate’s job to do what should have been done in the House impeachment inquiry. The reason other witnesses were not called during the House fiasco was that it was so … [Read more...]
