WHAT IS THE END GAME? With Russian troops decimating most of the cities they attack in Ukraine, what is the possibility of Russia occupying those cities once the war is over? Certainly those cities will have to see massive rebuilding before they can offer adequate living quarters. In addition, it is doubtful that the four million Ukrainians who have fled the country will have … [Read more...]
War news
At this writing there were reports that the Russians and Ukrainians were engaged in peace talks in Turkey. This comes as Ukrainian forces are recapturing territory that Russian Troops once held. Also, there was news that other Russian forces were regrouping. Apparently Putin’s month-long war, which decimated much of Ukraine, was not going on schedule. Whatever the outcome of … [Read more...]
Sports broadcasters
At a recent coffee klatch, the subject of sports commentators came up. With the recent passing of John Madden, it seems colorful sports commentators have all but vanished. In the past, one looked forward to hearing Bill Stern, Curt Gowdy, Howard Cosell or Don Meredith describe sporting events. Most of today’s announcers are bland analysts of the games. Locally, two of the … [Read more...]
Kudos to Kerschen
I don’t often do book reviews for a couple of reasons. They are one, if I write an overly Reader’s Digest review I probably kill some sales of the complete tome. Big time tennis competition returned to this area for the first time in more than 56 years when a Davis Cup match was held between the United States team and Colombia on March 4th and 5th at the Reno Downtown Events Center. Biden’s SOTU speech
Main topic of conversation at last week’s coffee klatch was President Biden’s State of the Union address. The general consensus of the group, both left and right, was that it was a complete dud. What Biden sought to do was to say that by working together we could solve all of America’s current problems. This after over a year of doing everything wrong, he is proposing a … [Read more...]
Ukraine invasion
The long awaited invasion of Ukraine by Russia occurred last week. For many weeks the date certain for the assault was February 16th, but the actual date was a little over a week later. Not since Adolf Hitler launched his famous “Blitzkrieg” to start World War II, has the world seen as major a conflict in Europe. Immediately after the first shot was fired President Biden … [Read more...]
Olympic imbroglio
By the time you read this, two major sporting events of 2022 will be in the books. The first would be the Super Bowl, won by the LA Rams, which proved to be one of the better Super Bowls of all time. It looked as if Cincinnati was on the way to victory up until the last minute and a half. After the Rams scored it seemed that the Bengals were on their way to force … [Read more...]
